Unfortunately, the only picture of sex addicts that most people get are those in the public eye who are seeking treatment after being caught in a morally questionable situation. As a result sex addicts have been accused of only using the term to get away with harmful behavior. This small sample of people is not comprehensive of all those out there who are truly suffering with a very powerful disease. In this Huffington Post article, author Barb Rogers offers 5 common traits that set sex addicts apart from those looking for a scapegoat. They are all consistent with my experience and that of many of the hundreds of addicts I've spoken with.
